Welcome to the Grand Flight Deck! Getting up in the air can provide a whole new perspective on familiar places. I felt that uniqueness needed it’s own little section on the site. So this page is dedicated to a variety of my aeronautical obsessions, below you’ll find a hub of links to all sorts of high flying fun and adventure.
“Once you have tasted flight, you will forever walk the earth with your eyes turned skyward, for there you have been, and there you will always long to return.”
- Leonardo Da Vinci
Before we take off …
Allow me to share something I recently realized about myself. I’ve wanted a drone for a while because I thought it would be a fun way to capture unique photos and videos. I haven’t regret purchasing one since the opportunity presented itself, I love this thing. I regularly refer to it as “the coolest camera I’ve ever owned”. Then one morning while I was out waiting for the sunrise it occurred to me just how deeply rooted my obsession with flying is.
Watching the horizon light up I recalled my first flight in a single engine Cessna at a Lancaster Airshow nearly 20 years ago, as well as my first commercial flight a few years later. Later in life things got a bit more daring with skydiving, and then later rides in hot air balloons and helicopters. I also recalled my repeated pleas to make time to visit the Wright Bother’s Memorial in Kitty Hawk every year when we visit the Outer Banks. We almost made it one year, but when we arrived the park was closed due to a government shutdown.
From a personal standpoint, I think flight is one of mankind’s greatest achievements. While I hope that all of you reading this enjoy the scenery, I hope to inspire a bit of obsession in at least a few of you.

If you say "I want to fly"
I enjoy creating and watching fun drone videos, but it will never come close to the experience of actually flying. Below you’ll find links to articles I’ve written on two of my favorite aeronautical adventures. There are pros and cons to each, but I would recommend doing both if you can …
